Automaton è un amichevole automa a stati finiti per Python. Questo automa a stati finiti può essere usato per eseguire automaticamente un dato insieme di transizioni e stati in risposta ad eventi (sia da callback sia da valori send() di generatori/iteratori, vedere PEP 342). Per ogni evento verificatosi, può anche essere fornito un callback on_enter e on_exit che sarà chiamato per eseguire qualche tipo di azione all'uscita di uno stato precedente e prima dell'entrata in un nuovo stato.
