otp crea liste di chiavi e password, per fini di verifica e sicurezza, in vari formati. Le chiavi possono essere di lunghezza arbitraria, contenere cifre o lettere (maiuscole o minuscole) e le parole d'accesso alfabetiche possono essere sia completamente casuali (più sicure) o rispettare le statistiche dei digrammi dell'inglese (più facili da ricordare nella trascrizione, ma meno sicure).

Per applicazioni informatiche, ad esempio password usa-e-getta d'accesso al login, otp può creare file contenenti l'impronta MD5 di ogni chiave generata. Questo permette al computer di verificare le chiavi senza il bisogno di conservarle in chiaro.
