AsciiDoc è un formato di documenti di testo per scrivere articoli, libri, manuali e pagine man UNIX. I file AsciiDoc possono essere trasformati in HTML (con o senza fogli di stile), DocBook (articoli, libri e documenti refentry) e LinuxDoc usando il comando asciidoc. AsciiDoc può anche essere usato per creare e mantenere siti web.

Si scrive un documento AsciiDoc nello stesso modo in cui si scriverebbe un normale documento di testo; non ci sono tag marcatori o strane notazioni. I file AsciiDoc sono progettati per essere visualizzati, modificati e stampati direttamente o per essere trasformati in altri formati di presentazione.
