Værktøj til optimering af PNG-billeder (Portable Network Graphics)

Pngnq er et værktøj for kvantificering af 32-bit RGBA PNG-billeder til 8- bit RGBA palet-PNG. Det er en adaption via Stuart Coyle af Greg Roelfs pngquant. Mens pngquant bruger en median klip-algoritme, så bruger Pngnq Anthony Dekkers neuquant-algoritme (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~dekker/NEUQUANT.HTML), der generelt giver bedre resultater end pngquant.

Optimeringsprogrammer (såsom pngcrush og optipng) optimerer komprimeringen, normalt uden kvalitetstab. Pngnq kvantificerer farver ned til 256 (eller færre) distinkte RGBA-kombinationer, som giver ret så meget kvalitetstab. Optimerede PNG'er er normalt to til fire gange mindre end 32- bit versioner.
