O Postfix é o agente de transporte de mail de Wietse Venema que começou como uma alternativa ao programa bastante usado Sendmail. O Postfix visa ser rápido, fácil de administrar, e seguro, e ao mesmo tempo ser suficientemente compatível com o Sendmail para não aborrecer utilizadores existentes. Assim, o exterior tem gostinho a sendmail, mas o interior é totalmente diferente.
