Znacznie rozszerzony zamiennik BibTeX-a dla użytkowników BibLaTeX-a

Pakiet biblatex autorstwa Philippa Lehmana staje się niezastąpionym narzędziem do zarządzania cytowaniami dla użytkowników LaTeX-a. Biblatex korzysta z zasłużonego programu BibTeX wyłącznie do sortowania i generowania bardzo ogólnego pliku .bbl, bez żadnych instrukcji formatowania. Resztą zajmuje się biblatex, który zapewnia potężny i elastyczny interfejs makr dla autorów stylów cytowania.

Biber oferuje użytkownikom BibLaTeX-a szeroki zestaw funkcji programu BibTeX. Ponadto oferuje pełne możliwości UTF-8 (Unicode 6.0), w pełni konfigurowalne sortowanie, wyjście do GraphViz ułatwiające wizualizację złożonych odnośników, obsługę zdalnych źródeł danych, strukturalną walidację danych względem (konfigurowalnego) modelu danych i wiele więcej.
