Estrae metadati sulla revisione corrente da un repository. Questo programma è pensato per essere usato da sistemi di compilazione di progetti per estrarre proprietà che possono essere usate in stringhe di versione del software. I tipi di repository supportati includono git, hg, bzr e svn. Può creare file che contengono definizioni di variabili e macro adatti per vari linguaggi di programmazione e altri formati di informazioni. Le informazioni emesse includono l'ID del commit più recente, il suo ramo, la sua data e svariate altre utili meta-informazioni. C'è il supporto per leggere e scrivere un file di cache, per cui autorevision rimarrà utile durante la compilazione da archivi tar di distribuzione scompattati.
