L'interprete BASIC Bywater (bwBASIC) implementa in C un grande sovrainsieme dello standard ANSI "Minimal BASIC" (X3.60-1978) e un sottoinsieme significativo dello standard ANSI "Full BASIC" (X3.113-1987). Offre anche meccanismi per programmare la shell come estensione del BASIC. bwBASIC cerca di essere il più portabile possibile.
