strumento per violare le password attive

John the Ripper è uno strumento progettato per aiutare gli amministratori di sistema nel trovare password deboli (facili da indovinare e da violare con attacchi "brute force") ed eventualmente avvisare automaticamente gli utenti tramite email.

Oltre alle più diffuse codifiche hash per password di crypt(3) disponibili sui vari Unix, sono gestiti senza configurazioni aggiuntive hash sia Kerberos AFS sia LM di Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, più svariati altri contribuiti tramite patch.
