C-skallen blev oprindelig skrevet på UCB for at omgå begrænsninger i Bourne-skallen. Dens fleksibilitet og behagelighed (på det tidspunkt) gjorde, at den hurtigt blev skalvalget indtil mere avancerede skaller som ksh, bash, zsh eller tcsh kom frem. De fleste af de sidstnævnte indarbejdede funktioner som oprindelig kom fra csh.
Denne pakke er baseret på aktuelle OpenBSD-kilder.
