'grep' 是一个用于搜索文本文件的程序，它可以通过命令行调用，也可以从脚本中调用。也许你并不直接使用它，但是你系统中的其它程序很可能会用到它。

GNU 家族的 grep 系列工具可能是"西方最快的 grep"。GNU grep 基于一种快速 lazy-state 判决器(大约是 Unix egrep 的两倍快)，并且融合了用于固定字符串搜索的 Boyer-Moore-Gosper 方法，在使用到完整的正则表达式判决器之前就预先排除完全不可能的文字，而无需逐字搜索。因此速度一般比 Unix grep 或者 egrep 要快许多倍。(但是包含了反向索引的正则表达式要处理得慢一些。)
