在笔记本电脑中，高级电源管理(APM)提供了诸如获得电池状态信息，动态节能等功 能，这依赖于你的笔记本电脑的高级电源管理(APM)功能的具体实现方式。当APM事 件发生时，apmd程序能够让你自定义运行任何程序(例如可以在挂起到内存时弹出 PCMCIA设备，或者当连接电池时改变你的硬盘的超时设定)。

此包包含 apmd(8)，一个用于记录和执行APM事件的守护程序；还有 apm(1)，一个客户 端程序，用于将 /proc/apm 中的信息以可读的的格式输出。

apmd 是通过内核中的 APM 驱动来获知 APM 事件的。

从 lenny 开始，Debian 内核不再包含 APM 支持。使用此包，您需要编译一个启用 apm 支持的内核。如果要启用这个驱动，您需要启动内核时，带有 "apm=on" 选项。

大部分情况下，用户可能需要知道现在有新的电源管理配置方案，例如说 ACPI。
