Narzędzia administrowania z przestrzeni użytkownika dla zawartych w jądrze Linuksa netfilter oraz iptables. netfilter oraz iptables wprowadzają podstawową strukturę dla filtrowania pakietów, translacji adresów i portów sieciowych oraz innych zabiegów na pakietach IP. Struktura ta jest następczynią ipchains.

netfilter i iptables są używane w takich zastosowaniach jak dzielenie połączenia do Internetu, zapory ogniowe, zbieranie statystyk ruchu IP, przezroczyste pośredniczenie (proxy), zaawansowane trasowanie (routing) i sterowanie ruchem.
