Tworzy udawane środowisko uprzywilejowane

Ten pakiet umożliwia wykonanie takiej komendy: 

  dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
np. aby zlikwidować potrzebę bycia administratorem, aby zbudować pakiet. Jest to osiągane poprzez ustawianie LD_PRELOAD na libfakeroot.so, które wprowadza "opakowania" wokół getuid, chown, chmod, mknod, stat itd. przez co tworzy udawane środowisko uprzywilejowane.

fakeroot wymaga do działania SYSV IPC lub TCP.
