Aspell, spellingcontrole verspreid onder de GNU-licentie

GNU Aspell is een spellingscontroleprogramma dat gebruikt kan worden als los programma of uitbreiding voor andere programma's. Het belangrijkste voordeel van dit programma is dat het veel beter is in het voorstellen van andere spellingen dan andere programma's, zoals Microsoft Office Word en Ispell. Het heeft ook nog vele andere nuttige pluspunten ten opzichte van Ispell, zoals het gebruik van gedeeld geheugen voor woordenlijsten/-boeken en het op slimme wijze beheren van eigen woordenlijsten/-boeken wanneer er meer dan één Aspellproces tegelijkertijd draait.

Aspell is gemaakt om een drop-invervanger te zijn voor Ispell.
