Yorick is een geinterpreteerde programmeertaal voor:

 * wetenschappelijke simulaties en berekeningen
 * naverwerking of bijsturing van grote simulatie codes
 * interactieve wetenschappelijke afbeeldingen
 * lezen, schrijven en vertalen van grote bestanden met getallen

De taal bevat een compacte syntax voor veelvoorkomende rijbewerkingen, dus het verwerkt grote rijen getallen heel snel en effiecient. Oppervlakkig bekeken lijkt yorick code op C, maar yorick variabelen worden nooit expliciet gedeclareerd en hebben een dynamisch bereik, vergelijkbaar met veel Lisp dialecten. Yorick is ontworpen om interactief ingevoerd te worden, zowel als in bestanden te worden opgeslagen voor later gebruik.

Dit pakket bevat een emacs gebaseerde ontwikkelomgeving, die je kan starten door M-x yorick te typen in emacs.
