Firebird는 리눅스, 윈도우즈 및 여러 유닉스 플랫폼에서 동작하는 관계형 데이터베이스로, 많은 ANSISQL-99 기능을 제공합니다. Firebird는 뛰어난 동시성, 고성능, 그리고 저장된 프로시져와 트리거를 위한 강력한 언어 지원을 제공합니다. 1981년 이후 부터 여러가지 이름으로 생산 시스템에서 사용되었습니다.

"super" 아키텍쳐는 각각의 접속를 분리된 스레드를 사용해 처리합니다. Firebird는 여러가지 이점(예로, 대량의 클라이언트 환경에서 더 빠르고 효과적입니다)이 있지만, SMP 시스템에서 하나의 CPU 이상을 사용할 수 없으며, 특정 환경아래서 클라이언트가 서버 트래드를 죽일 수가 있습니다.
