BuildBot は、ほとんどのソフトウェアプロジェクトでソースコードの変更を検査す るのに必須なコンパイル・テストのサイクルを自動化するシステムです。何かが変 更されるたびに、再ビルドとテストが自動的に実行され、ビルドやテストの失敗が 他の開発者に迷惑を掛ける前にビルドの問題を素早く特定します。間違いを犯した 開発者は人間が関与することなく特定され、その間違いを指摘してくれます。
様々なプラットフォーム上でビルドを実行することにより、ソースコードをチェッ クインする前に、自分が変更した部分を任意の場所でテストできるような環境を 持っていない開発者であっても、少なくとも変更直後にビルドが通らなくなってい ないかは分かります。警告の数、lint による検査、ビルドした結果のイメージの大 きさ、コンパイル時間やその他のパラメータを長期に渡り追跡可能で、これらをよ り分かりやすく表現するので容易に改善できるようになります。
