ara è una utilità per fare ricerche nel database dei pacchetti Debian usando interrogazioni con espressioni regolari booleane.

ara può fare ricerche sofisticate su questo database. È possibile usare come criterio di ricerca tutti i campi del database dei pacchetti e anche qualunque loro combinazione booleana.

ara può anche richiamare APT (o un altro comando configurabile dall'utente) per installare o rimuovere i pacchetti che verificano la richiesta.
