associa combinazioni di tasti o pulsanti mouse a comandi shell

xbindkeys è un programma che permette di lanciare comandi shell dalla propria tastiera o dal mouse nel sistema X Window. Collega i comandi ai tasti o ai pulsanti del mouse, usando un file di configurazione. È indipendente dal window manager è può catturare tutti i tasti della tastiera (es: power, wake...).

Opzionalmente supporta una struttura di file di configurazione basata su guile che permette di accedere al funzionamento interno di xbindkeys, in modo da poter avere combinazioni di tasti, doppi clic o doppi clic temporizzati correlati ad azioni. Inoltre tutte le funzioni che funzionano in guile funzioneranno in xbindkeys.
