utilità per trasformare bitmap in grafica vettoriale

potrace è uno strumento per tracciare bitmap, cioè per trasformarle in un'immagine scalabile pulita. L'input è in formato bitmap (PBM, PGM, PPM o BMP) e l'output predefinito è un file Encapsulated PostScript (EPS). Un uso comune è quello di creare file EPS a partire da dati scansionati, come logo di aziende o università, note scritte a mano, ecc. L'immagine risultante non è "scalettata" come le bitmap, ma pulita. Può essere in seguito resa a qualsiasi risoluzione.

potrace può attualmente produrre i seguenti formati d'output: EPS, PostScript, PDF, SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), Xfig, Gimppath e PGM (per un facile antialiasing). Backend aggiuntivi possono essere aggiunti in futuro.
