driver ODBC per PostgreSQL
Questo pacchetto fornisce un driver che permette alle applicazioni con supporto per ODBC di accedere a database PostgreSQL. ODBC è un livello d'astrazione che permette alle applicazioni scritte per esso di accedere a database in un modo che è relativamente indipendente dal particolare sistema di gestione del database.
È necessario installare questo pacchetto se si desidera usare un'applicazione che fornisce accesso a database via ODBC e si vuole che essa acceda a un database PostgreSQL. Questo pacchetto dovrebbe essere installato sulla stessa macchina dell'applicazione client; il server di database PostgreSQL può essere su una macchina differente che non ha bisogno di alcun software aggiuntivo per accettare client ODBC.
Se si desidera scrivere software che possa accedere ad un database attraverso il livello di astrazione ODBC, è necessario installare il pacchetto di sviluppo del gestore del driver unixODBC, unixodbc-dev, e probabilmente altri pacchetti aggiuntivi per i collegamenti al linguaggio di programmazione. Questo pacchetto driver è usato solamente al momento dell'esecuzione.
