Axel cerca di accelerare i processi di scaricamento usando connessioni multiple per un singolo file. Può usare anche mirror multipli per uno stesso scaricamento. Axel cerca di essere il più leggero possibile (25-30k in forma binaria), perciò potrebbe essere utile come clone di wget su sistemi in cui si da peso al singolo byte.
