Slrn è un newsreader con supporto per threading e per il colore, progettato per leggere le news velocemente con connessioni lente.

Slrn può leggere le news di usenet tramite NNTP o direttamente dallo spool locale.

Slrn può essere pesantemente personalizzato dal suo file rc, e include perfino un linguaggio di macro integrato. C'è anche il supporto per killfile e scoring.
