linguaggio per processare macro

GNU "m4" è un'implementazione del processore di macro tipico di UNIX. È per lo più compatibile con SVR4, con qualche estensione (ad esempio, può gestire macro con più di 9 argomenti). "m4" è anche dotato di alcune funzioni interne per includere altri file, eseguire comandi shell, fare calcoli, etc. Autoconf richiede GNU "m4" per generare gli script "configure", ma non per eseguirli.
