GPSBabel conventre punti, tragitti e percorsi da un formato ad un altro, sia che il formato sia uno di quelli comuni di mappatura come Delorme, Streets and Trips, sia che si tratti un un caricamento o scaricamento seriale di dati da un'unità GPS come quelle Garmin e Magellan.

GPSBabel supporta dozzine di formati dati e sarà utile per attività quali il geocaching, creazione di mappe e conversioni da un'unità GPS ad un'altra. Tra i formati supportati più interessati ci sono diversi GPS con interfaccia seriale, vari programmi di mappe per PDA e vari formati di dati per geocaching.
