La Bourne Again SHell di GNU

Bash è un interprete di comandi, sh compatibile, che esegue comandi letti dallo standard input o da un file. Bash incorpora anche utili caratteristiche delle shell Korn e C (ksh e csh).

Bash è in definitiva pensata per essere un'implementazione conforme alle specifiche IEEE POSIX per le shell e i programmi d'utilità (IEEE Working Group 1003.2).

Il Programmable Completion Code, di Ian Macdonald, ora si trova nel pacchetto bash-completion.
