Ghostscript se usa para previsualizar e imprimir PostScript y PDF. Normalmente lo usa otro programa como ghostview, puede mostrar documentos PostScript y PDF en un entorno X11.

Además, puede dibujar archivos PostScript y PDF como gráficos para ser imprimidos por impresoras no compatibles con PostScript. Las impresoras compatibles incluyen una matriz de puntos común, inkjet y modelos láser.
