4G8 le permite capturar tráfico de terceras partes en entornos conmutados a expensas de un pequeño incremento en la latencia en esa tercera máquina. Utilizando técnicas de envenenamiento de la caché de ARP, de captura de paquetes y de reconstrucción de paquetes, 4G8 funciona con casi cualquier tipo de tráfico TCP, ICMP y UDP de IPV4.
