Layout og optegning af internationaliseret tekst

Pango er et bibliotek til layout og optegning af tekst, hvor vægten er på internationalisering. Pango kan anvendes overalt hvor tekstlayout kræves. Det meste af arbejdet med Pango-1.0 foretaget med GTK+- kontrolværktøjssættet som testplatform. Pango udgør kernen af tekst- og skrifttypehåndtering i GTK+-2.0.

Pango er designet til at være modulær; kernen i Pangos layout kan bruges med fire forskellige motorer:

 - Kerneskrifttyper i X-vinduessystemet
 - Klientside skrifttyper på X med brug af Xft-biblioteket
 - Direkte optegning af skalérbare skrifttyper med brug af FreeType-
   bibloteket.
 - Oprindelige skrifttyper på Microsoft-motorer.
