Podpora geografických objektů pro PostgreSQL -- společné soubory

PostGIS přidává do objektově relační databáze PostgreSQL podporu geografických objektů. PostGIS vlastně rozšíří PostgreSQL o "prostor", díky čemuž může být PostgreSQL použit jako databázový backend pro geografické informační systémy (GIS) podobně jako SDE od ESRI nebo Spatial extension od Oracle. PostGIS splňuje specifikaci OpenGIS "Simple Features Specification for SQL".
