mdetect je nástroj pro automatickou konfiguraci myši; běžně se používá jako backend v nějakém druhu uživatelsky přívětivého kódu. mdtect vypíše automaticky detekovanou myš a protokol (jako je ten používaný gpm) na standardní výstup. Také ho můžete použít k vytvoření odpovídajícího souboru s konfigurací XFree86.
