Ovládá a monitoruje diskový systém za použití S.M.A.R.T.

Balíček smartmontools obsahuje dva programy (smartctl a smartd), které slouží pro monitorování a ovládání úložných zařízení pomocí S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System), který naleznete ve většině moderních disků ATA a SCSI. Je odvozen od balíčku smartsuite a obsahuje podporu disků ATA/ATAPI-5. Měl by běžet na všech moderních linuxových systémech.
