   * New upstream release.
     - Fixes CVE-2006-4292: DoS vulnerability (Closes: #384806)

   * Fix typos in config.sample which is provided in /etc/honeypot/honeyd.conf
     (Closes: #383556)
   * Added more configuration examples provided by Niels Provos and Lance
     Spitzner.
   * Fix init.d script since it would not detect properly if the daemon did
not start (on 'start') and would wait innecessary time if the
daemon was already dead (on 'restart')

2005

honeyd (1.0a-rc2-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Fix possible segfault in architectures where the size of a pointer is
greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64, by including event.h
and honeyd.h (defines prototype for fgetln()) in pfctl_osfp.c, patch
   by Dann Frazier (Closes: #325355)
   * Alternative build-Depend on libreadline5-dev and rebuild with
   it (Closes: #326346)
   * Depend on adduser, since its used in maintainer scripts

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Thu, 22 Sep 2005 00:28:40 +0200

honeyd (1.0a-rc2-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release candidate.
This version fixes stability bugs and should be more stable than 1.0
   * Fix a bug in the init.d script so that it works properly if the PIDFILE
     exists but it is empty
   * Fix FTBFS when using gcc-4.0 in amd64 with patch from Andreas Jochens
     (Closes: #293037)
   * Default template: (Closes: #305789)
      - Do not use the 'set template uid' command as honeyd does not run
        as root anymore
      - Use full paths for scripts
   * Fix information in README.Debian:
      - Running scripts with lower privileges requires that the user running
      honeyd has CAP_SETUID
      - Some scripts might log to alternate locations (not
/var/log/honeypot) and should be reviewed manually
    * Make scripts at /usr/share/honeyd/scripts executable (fixes many lintian
warnings and makes calling these scripts easier)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Mon, 25 Apr 2005 16:09:49 +0200

honeyd (1.0-6) unstable; urgency=low

   * Remove obsolete information in README.Debian (Closes: #293731)
   * Build with latest libpcap and adjust debian/control accordingly

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sat, 5 Feb 2005 14:45:34 +0100

honeyd (1.0-5) unstable; urgency=low

   * Removed the possibility of calling farpd from within honeyd's init
script (farp should provide its own)
   * Added checks in the init.d script to determine the status of the
honeyd daemon and warn if a start/restart operation does not succeeded
(for example, if the configuration file or the interface are not
     correct)
   * -x test for $DAEMON moved higher up since there is no need to do
a lot of stuff is honeyd is not there.
   * s/arpd/farpd/ in manpage. As that's the name of the program in Debian.

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Wed, 19 Jan 2005 00:43:27 +0100

honeyd (1.0-4) unstable; urgency=low

   * Added Build-Depends for zlib1g-dev

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Tue, 18 Jan 2005 18:35:40 +0100

honeyd (1.0-3) unstable; urgency=low

   * Added Build-Depend with libreadline-dev and python-dev (Closes: #289835)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sun, 16 Jan 2005 03:33:17 +0100

honeyd (1.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Final 1.0 release upload to sid (Closes: #288407)
   * Recompile with libdumbnet1 (1.8-1.3) since the library soname was wrong.

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sat, 15 Jan 2005 23:03:55 +0100

honeyd (1.0-1) experimental; urgency=low

   * Final 1.0 release upload to Debian (Closes: #288407)
   * Introduce a 'honeyd' user and group that is used to launch honeyd
   * Change ownership of /var/log/honeypot/ to the new honeyd user so that
     it can create files there.
   * Updated the documents, including the FAQ (manually, from www.honeyd.org)
   * Changed the Homepage in debian/control from
     http://www.citi.umich.edu/u/provos/honeyd to http://www.honeyd.org
   * Fixed doc-base references to the FAQ (pointed to honeyd's directory
     instead of honeyd-common's)
   * The new webserver is disabled per default since it might allow remote
users (if permissions are granted to the honeyd user) to change
honeyd's configuration. However, it is actually quite cool so I
would like to encourage others to test it out!
   * The honeyd init script will now stop honeyd even if it's not configured
     yet.

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Mon, 3 Jan 2005 17:05:48 +0100

2004

honeyd (1.0RC3-1) experimental; urgency=low

   * New upstream release (beta release)
     - build-depend on latest libdumb-net (1.8)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Thu, 23 Dec 2004 12:06:27 +0100

honeyd (0.8-4) unstable; urgency=low

   * Build in binary-indep and binary-arch properly, it seems that
DH_OPTION does not get exported (Closes: #241078)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Wed, 31 Mar 2004 02:20:50 +0200

honeyd (0.8-3) unstable; urgency=low

   * Honeyd default template now uses 65534 instead of 32767 for uid/gid
and the README.Debian file describes more what to do in order to
run it with lower privileges (changed here instead of the source
code's default value since it's easier to switch to other users)
In any case don't expect honeyd to work out of the box without
reading how does it need to be configured! (Closes: #237838)
   * The init.d script now logs start and stop daemon attempts
to $LOGDIR/daemon.log which is also rotated with logrotate.

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sat, 13 Mar 2004 21:14:14 +0100

honeyd (0.8-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Damn, I did not apply Simon's patch at all (I though I had) which
means that the previous version did not have the fix that prevent
the buildds from breaking (all have, save for sparc). This version
_does_ include AM_MAINTAINER_MODE and the config.{guess, sub} files
have been updated (from autotools-dev 20040105.1) and no longer
Build-Depends on aclocal-1.4 as Simon suggested. This release
now properly acknowledges the NMU and (Closes: #227250)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Fri, 12 Mar 2004 17:37:57 +0100

honeyd (0.8-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream version (Closes: #229033)
   * Added a first attempt of an init.d script and moved configuration
files to /etc/honeypot, this should make it easier for users to
     startup honeyd with minimum configuration.
   * Added also a log file (new) and logrotation facilities for it.
   * Hacked the configure.in file to be able to run it properly.
   * Added the scripts provided in the "Linux Honeypot Kit" for more
service emulation (but removed iis-emulator which is in a separate
     package)
   * All common data (documentation and scripts) has now been moved to
     a separate package.
   * Removed python bindings (I cannot get it to work fine, so writting
scripts in Python for honeyd will have to wait a bit)
   * Disabled yet another nmap OS fingerprint to avoid honeyd's warning:
Warning: Impossible SI range in Class fingerprint "IBM OS/400 V4R2M0"

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sun, 22 Feb 2004 00:24:00 +0100

honeyd (0.6a-4.1) unstable; urgency=medium

   * Removed automake1.4 to Build-Depends because that's not supposed to
happen. Instead, use AM_MAINTAINER_MODE so that the Makefile never
tries to update the build system.

 -- Simon Law <sfllaw@debian.org>  Tue, 20 Jan 2004 02:23:15 -0500

2003

honeyd (0.6a-4) unstable; urgency=low

   * Added automake1.4 to Build-Depends since some builds are complaining
about not finding 'aclocal-1.4' (Closes: #220914)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sat, 15 Nov 2003 17:57:46 +0100

honeyd (0.6a-3) unstable; urgency=low

   * Improved the method of obtaining documentation from the website in order
   to fail less often.

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Tue, 4 Nov 2003 00:31:15 +0100

honeyd (0.6a-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Recompiled with libevent1 and libdumbnet1 (Closes: #218181)
   * Converted into a non-native Debian package (mistake in the previous
   build)
   * Removed exec bit from shared library files under /usr/lib/honeyd/
   * Strip the libraries upon installation by modifying the Makefile.in file
(this probably should be done by automake itself but I don't understand why
it's not stripping them as well as not installing them mode 0644)
Unfortunately dh_strip does not catch /usr/lib/libhoneyd, but I'm removing
it from the package since I consider it useless atm.
   * Updated Standards-Version

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Mon, 3 Nov 2003 11:20:28 +0100

honeyd (0.6a-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release (Closes: #210491)
   * Added Daniel Cid's telnet emulator to the contributed directory.
   * Slight change in Makefile.am to get it to properly copy over the
   .so file
   * Mentioned iisemulator package in the dependancies and in debian/control
   (Suggested)
   * Slight changes in the 'update-doc' rule in order to avoid downloading
pdfs, and to do proper checking in case no gif files are found.

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Sat, 11 Oct 2003 22:28:04 +0200

published by Niels but approved in private e-mail)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Wed, 23 Apr 2003 23:34:08 +0200

honeyd (0.4a-7) unstable; urgency=low

   * Added missing Build-Deps for flex and bison which probably makes
it not compile from source properly (Closes: #180905)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Fri, 14 Feb 2003 00:51:20 +0100

honeyd (0.4a-6) unstable; urgency=low

being used as part of the "trick" (Closes: #180655)

 -- Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a <jfs@computer.org>  Wed, 12 Feb 2003 20:47:00 +0100

honeyd (0.4a-5) unstable; urgency=low

   * Debian/rules now does not call update-doc and will not clean
doc/ dir by default (Closes: #174803)
(I'm still keeping wget in Build-Deps though, since it can still be called
   manually)
   * Recompiled (again) in sid and verified it makes it Depend: on latest

   * Fixed some lintian warnings (recompiled in 'sid' also)
   * Patched parse.y to compile seems something has changed from bison 1.35 to
     bison 1.75
