     the bloated 'configure' + 'make distclean' calls.
   * Used ${CURDIR} instead of `pwd` in the debian/rules.

   * Removed architecture-dependant parts from the debian/rules file.
   * No longer running the configure script. The simple variable
     substitution is now done in the debian/rules file using 'sed'.
